Matriarchs
Northwest Mystics 2019: Women Of The PNW. Center on Contemporary Art Seattle. Seattle, WA
MATRIARCHS is a photographic series that explores narratives of resilience by the matriarchal figures in my family. This series looks at the power of matrilineal wisdom and the ways women have channeled it. I began by interviewing the oldest living generations in my family about the sacrifices they made; tribulations they survived; and trials they overcame.
In this process, I saw a common thread of resilience, resourcefulness, and leadership that ran through my family history. I found a quiet strength in the women who raised me. With gratitude, I recognize my elders through this photographic work.
